Kate Kortum — Good Woman [2023]

On the heels of her admission to The Juilliard School in Manhattan, vocalist Kate Kortum marks a pivotal point in her career that finds the vocalist launching into her role as a bandleader with the upcoming release of “Good Woman”.

Recently completing her training at the Frost School of Music, Kortum utilizes an intentional selection of her repertoire to tell a coming of age story - stepping into womanhood and exploring love on a woman's own terms

Kortum expresses, “entering a male-dominated field, one of my artistic focuses has been to reframe standards written by men about a woman’s experience”, says Kortum. “Often times jazz standards contain infantilizing lyrics, making a woman’s being dependent on a partner - they often allude to, and even outright say, that a strong man must complete every good woman.

Throughout Good Woman, a clear chemistry is found between the breakout vocalist and her accompanying trio that features pianist Eric Stern, bassist Patrick Leavy and drummer Jacob Smith.

"It's incredibly rare to hear an artist who has such a distinct sound with total command, demanding the attention of audiences and artists alike," says producer Christian Wiggs.
